Making Environments Safe for Data Providers

To provide a safe, trustworthy environment for those providing data, inform them about:

  • the purpose and benefits of the inquiry
  • the voluntary nature of involvement and their right to withdraw from the inquiry
  • who will see the data and the results

Protect the privacy of individuals by not identifying participants in reports. If information is being published that would be recognizable to others, ask participants to agree in writing to the release of this information.

Ensure that no one experiences a greater loss of privacy or risks of physical, psychological,
or social harm than one would expect to encounter in daily life.

Contact your CLIP Guide to find out what research guidelines exist at your institution. Your CLIP inquiry may or may not be considered research under your institution’s guidelines.
