Developing an Agenda

Well-developed agendas help people prepare for participation and stay on track during meetings. They also serve as reference points for evaluating what worked and what could be improved about group processes.

When you develop an agenda, include these six elements:

  1. topics that are clearly defined
  2. a purpose for the inclusion of each topic and/or intended outcomes
  3. names of persons responsible for each topic
  4. estimated time required to handle each topic
  5. how members are expected to handle a topic, such as by making a presentation, brainstorming, or making a consensus decision
  6. action steps for topics
