National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA)
From 2002-2004 InSites conducted studies of the seminars conducted by the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia. NCTA is the Freeman Foundation’s largest program. Here are resources resulting from these studies.
- Teaching about Asia in American Schools: Keys to Success (2004) presents findings on the impact of seminars operated by NCTA and describes factors that support the sustained presence of Asia in schools and classrooms. NCTA is a nationwide program that provides professional development about Asia for middle and high school teachers.
- Teaching about Asia in American Schools: Tips for Seminar Leaders (2004) provides information on how seminar leaders design seminars to both increase teachers’ content knowledge and help them foster a sustained presence for Asia in their classrooms and schools.
- During the study of the NCTA, the InSites team visited 16 schools to learn more about how participants are using what they learned in NCTA seminars. The NCTA case studies (2004) describe a variety of approaches to common school situations and assist the reader in considering how those approaches could relate to their own educational setting.
