Alternative School: Admin Support Context

The idea for a year-round Asian theme at the Alternative School came from the NCTA participants. The principal agreed to let them organize it. With her endorsement, they brought together other staff members in the planning process. Looking back on the activities and curriculum units that were developed, the principal said, “ It was interesting how we intensely worked pieces through this operation. I think it’s worked amazingly well. You always worry whether students are getting enough and whether they’re getting it in enough depth…It [Asia] has pervaded everything and I wouldn’t have predicted that.”
