Middle and High School Seminars: Overview

The seminars focus on the history and cultures of East Asia. The national coordinators select seminar leaders with extensive expertise or interest in Asian studies. Most seminar leaders conduct sessions themselves and use guest lecturers. Teachers must attend all 30 hours of the seminar and at least one meeting about six to twelve months after the seminar concludes.

Seminar leaders tailor the seminar to the needs of participating teachers. The seminars vary from place to place. Here you can view information about the seminar attended by teachers at the case study schools.

Select either middle school or high school and you will see a list of case study schools. Select one of the case study schools. The page will display information about the seminar attended by teachers from that school. You can develop an understanding of the similarities and differences among seminar features by reading descriptions for several schools. Topics about the seminars include seminar leader background, seminar content, follow-up activities, enrichment activities, and NCTA study tours. Not every case will have information on all these. For example, at the time of the site visits, the study tours were in an early stage of development and not many had occurred, so most case studies do not emphasize the study tours.
