Cross Case Features: Context

Jefferson High School: State Context

The assistant superintendentand the three participating NCTA teachers agree that Asia is in the Global Studies curriculum because of state tests, noting that “if it gets tested, it gets taught.” The examinations test students knowledge of Global History at the end of the ninth grade and Geography at the end of the tenth grade. Despite the efforts of advocacy groups to increase the content on Asia, the tests focus predominantly on Western History and Geography.
