Clemens Middle School: Community Context

The small city where Clemens High School is located lies near big metropolitan areas. Low unemployment, good schools, and low property taxes attract people to the area. Excellent educational institutions provide a strong labor pool for the county. The research university located nearby plays a key role in adding diversity by attracting a large international student body.

A local manufacturing company sponsors a teacher exchange program that annually sends local teachers to Japan and brings Japanese teachers to the city. It also hosts other Asia-focused events in the community as does the local sister city committee. Nevertheless, Asia is not a district focus. It does not fit well with the elementary school curriculum and is covered at the high school only in the World History and Japanese Language courses.
